Feature Article: MBUK Covers the Pro26!

Find out what makes the PRO26 an MBUK SuperBike!

Our customers have been so kind to tell us how they feel about the bicycles they purchased and their experiences working with us. We would like to share them with everyone who may be considering the purchase of a new hi-performance bicycle.

I want to thank you for your assistance with selection and sizing of my new Lynskey Helix. I am beyond pleased. Sunday I took my new bike for a two hour zone 2 heart rate training ride. What a smooth and pleasurable ride. I was so focused on getting use to the new bike as well as maintaining my heart rate I didn't realiize I was maintaining an avergae pace of 21.2 mph for my first two hour ride. The helix is a rocket with an amazingly smooth ride. Not bad pace for a 60 year old man. Thank you for all your assistance. I will be ordering a new jersey from you for my next Ironman.
Regards
Paul

I ended up with your R330 and have about 500 miles on it already!  Did some hills in Las Vegas , Red Rock and my normal 42 mile loop and can't believe how well the bike handles, feels and accelerates!  Carbon/Shmarbon....Ti is where it's at...especially if it has Lynskey on the side!

Thanks for providing such a beautiful and well made product!
One very happy customer,
Roy

Dear Lynskey Team,
I have had my new custom road bike for just 2 weeks now (and 304 miles), and cannot put into words how much joy I experience when riding!  I am nobody famous or special,  simply a client who was a little skeptical that a custom bike would really make much of a difference.  I had trouble keeping up with some of my friends, most of who were younger than I, but now I'm often sprinting past them and averaging 1 and a half to 2 miles per hour faster.  Because of my small size I was unable to purchase a high end bike "off the rack" and chose your company to make me something "fast and light".  This bike is lightning fast and so responsive!  It takes off like a rocket in the sprints, and my increased endurance and power has been noted by all my friends.  Your geometry and design took pressure off of my neck/back/shoulder, and I am riding pain free!  Somehow you even gave me space for 2 full size water bottles...this must be a first on such a small frame!

Thank you for your thoughtful and meticulous craftsmanship, and your passion for the sport of cycling!!

Let me first say that I just got back from 3 state 3 mountain ride. This was my first century ride both for me and for my Lysnkey level 3 custom I bought from Henry at Harpeth Bicycles back in January 07. WOW!! What a ride and what a bike! I felt so good after the 100 miles that I let a friend of mine talk me into going to the Cheahah Challenge and did another century. The bike was awesome and its lightweight frame and Campy components allowed me to survive the back to back rides. Thanks for building such a great bike!!!!

It simply doesn’t get any better than this… If you are looking for the best road bike frame on the planet; if you leave nothing to compromise; if you demand the absolute highest standards of engineering and design; if you can appreciate beauty and form working in harmony with flawless function; if you want a bike frame that very few have, but EVERYBODY else wants, then this is your bike frame.

I waited five months for this stunningly beautiful hand crafted custom-made bike and it’s everything I ever dreamed of and more in a bike. This is one of the most elegant and beautiful bicycle frames I have ever seen or ridden; it is art in motion…even standing still. The finish is utter perfection, the build quality second to none. The frame is incredibly reactive, ridiculously lightweight and fast with high levels of comfort for those long rides.

It seems almost effortless to pedal up hills and the ride feel can be described as supple but yet lively and extremely responsive when it counts. There simply isn’t a road out there that this frame won’t turn into glass. In addition, the durability of this frame is second-to-none because it will last a lifetime.
I want to personally thank the whole Lynskey Team and my local bike dealer Kevin Cronk for designing, creating and painting this titanium bike frame. Lynskey truly lives up to one of my favorite mottos; “In a world of compromise…some don’t”.

Okay.....about that first ride.....what can I say other than WOW!!! The first time I stood to sprint, the bike nearly jumped off the pavement. I was astounded at the lively responsiveness...how quickly the bike leapt in response to the least little pedal pressure. What an amazing difference from my Colnago. Quick, agile, spirited, responsive, magical!

We managed to ride on some of Thurston county's most notoriously bad chip seal and my Lynskey provided an exceedingly smooth ride. My hands felt fresh all day long.
Did I tell you how much I love the Campy Chorus compact crank? Absolutely dazzling in its immediacy....one little flick of the finger, and she quietly slips into another gear. None of this chain-grumbling hesitancy to settle into the next gear....no need for micro-adjustments. Just quick, clean, and right now. What a pleasure! I'm so happy with this new groupo.

We had only one major climb during our ride and all my fears about the compact crank vanished about mid-way up. The climb was of moderate inclination and, with such a lightweight bike, I found I had plenty of gearing to keep me comfortable. Some of our other climbs which peak at the 16 - 18% grade may provide a challenge, but then they always did....even with a triple.

The descent was as delicious as ever.....swooping banked turns within a green tunnel of overhanging branches....it was sublime. My Lynskey followed the turns as well as my Colnago ever did, giving me that "flying on rails" feeling that I so love. She passed my ultimate test.....I do love my down hills.

We'll head to Vancouver next for her first Century.....the Ride Around Clark County (RACC). Other than a couple of minute adjustments of the saddle, I think we're more than ready and able. She'll be sporting a new saddle pack, computer, bottle cage....nothing but the best for my new girl. Poor old Colnago sits in the corner and glowers.....too bad, so sad. Oh, and did I tell you how gorgeous I think this bike is? The gracefully curved seatstays are a thing of beauty.....truly elegant. Side-by-side with all those Sevens in my little group and my Lynskey is a stand-out work of art. She rocks!!

I am a long time cyclist (31 years) and I have owned a few custom bicycles, all of which were impressive. So when I began the process of looking for a new bike, I did not expect to be wow'd by a new custom bike, regardless of the builder. A new custom bike always works better than the old one, and it always fits better than one off the shelf and it always look fantastic. With that in mind, one must reserve judgment until you have a good 500 - 1000 miles on the road, you are comfortable pushing your skills to the limit, and the fancy finish is no longer the first thing you think about.

My experience with Lynskey Performance was fantastic from the start. I attributed some of this pleasant experience to the people in Tennessee being nicer than the slightly snobby custom builders I've talked with in the past. Jesse and others were extremely helpful and actually swayed me towards the Chorus group saving me a few $$'s over Record. You rarely experience advice like this when buying something custom. Everyone was extremely knowledgeable and helped me put together the package that I needed and expected.

Unfortunately the terrible weather in the NE this spring delayed my testimonial, but it has not dampened my new found devotion to Lynskey bicycles. The bike is stiff where I requested, handles incredibly well at high speeds, is extremely light, and smooth as silk. Lynskey put the WOW back in my ride and renewed my belief that a custom builder is part engineer, part artist, and part wish granter. This bicycle is beautiful. I wanted no paint or decals and the subtle bead blasted graphics are the perfect blend of cool and understated perfection. They have drawn the attention of many. To sum up my Lynskey experience: "spectacular".

Thanks to all. Everyone who loves to ride a bike needs to own a Lynskey!

The Virgin Voyage was nothing short of awesome. I WAS really in love with my Lemond frame, that’s why I stuck with the same frame geometry. On Friday I went for a short burst in the Hills outside Melbourne and was mind blown. My new custom level 4 Lynskey climbed well and was extremely quick and smooth in descent. I was really concerned on using the 410 with the 6/4 Top and Down tube as I thought it was going to be far too stiff when spending hours in the saddle, but found it amazingly smooth and shock absorbent.

The other thing that really surprised me on the first ride was the power transfer. While riding, I kept thinking "this pedals too easy" and without looking, thought I must have mistakenly installed a smaller ring on the front because it was noticeably easy to push. I have a high cadence and usually struggle to push big gears but found I was using my big ring so much more than usual. Since Friday I have ridden every day and am still amazed with the ride quality. The only way to describe my Lynskey custom bike is like a good quality bottle of scotch; smooth, refined and worth every cent!

Can you make a Titanium bike that isn’t "yawwwwn"? While favoring titanium over carbon and aluminum, in my quest to do something other than steel, I noticed that most Ti bikes are kind of precious. Their owners describe them as “stable” and “compliant”. Hmmmm.....but…well…they all look the same. Great bikes most of them. But somewhat boring, eh?

Not my Lynskey 310r with custom paint job! This bike is a riot: Made in Tennessee, Built To Go…FAST! HECK YEAH!!! And: Built To Say…Here I Am! And: Built To Provide An Aggressive Ride. And…BUILT!!!!!!
David Lynskey knows what he’s doing. After just 250 miles on my Lynskey I can tell. The bike transfers energy efficiently, corners in ways I really wasn’t sure a bike could and combined with a light weight has, even this early in the season, kept me up there with the best of my peloton. Mitch Reynolds painted and Jaime Pillsbury designed my bike (and helmet!) exactly as I conceived it. To say this paint job elevates the bike to a work of art is an understatement. If it weren’t so fast, I’d hang it on the wall! I wonder if all the attention will ever get ho-hum.

Keeping it all humming along, the sales department! If every Lynskey customer nags their sales guys as much as me, then I feel sorry for them. But if anyone can handle it, Lynskey can. “Don, can you paint flames right on the ti?”, “is it ready yet?” “can you get me the red wheels?”, “is it ready yet?”, “ can you paint my helmet to match?”, “is it ready yet?” “No, the RED wheels”, “is it ready yet?” Don ushered this beauty through the process and delivered a week before what I had schedule in my head!
All in all, this bike rocks, the Lynskey organization rocks. NowI ROCK on my Lynskey! Thinking about getting one? What are you waiting for?

Andrew S. : Boston, MA

My first ride was a great ride. I had the feeling that I was always up front. Maybe the other riders did not feel worthy to be riding alongside a Lynskey. I noticed what seemed like quicker acceleration, a much smoother ride. There are some road cracks that were always a hard jolt, but not on the Lynskey. They were very much dampened. The other riders were intrigued by the ovalized down tube and curved seat stays. I guess that this design has something to do with the smooth riding quality.

Tom S. : New Mexico

My first ride was a hilly 120kms out to the top of Paekakariki Hill then back down, over the Moonshine and a lap of Whiteman's valley on my way home. Lots of varied terrain and road surfaces. The bike handles incredibly well, I descended the Moonshine a lot faster than I ever did on my previous bike. The frame tracked around the corrugated off camber corners well and stayed on line. It didn't skip across the road as some bikes do on rough stuff.

The bike is very stiff at the BB, I tried stomping hard up hills in the big ring and it stayed solid, no rubbing of the chain on the front derailleur etc. Even though, the bike has a lively feel, not flexy or too snappy though. A combination of the stiffness and lively feel means it climbs well and accelerates nicely. It absorbs road vibrations well, especially coarse chip and big bumps, thanks to the vertical flex of the rear end. It's not as forgiving on the medium sized bumps as carbon although I think this will transpire after a few more rides into positive road feel. The feel is a bit like a stiff, top end steel frame. After 4 plus hours in the saddle, the only discomfort was a sore bum from a not quite right saddle position.

I am looking forward to racing the R420 to see how it goes when used in anger! The R420 is definitely a race bike, its fast and direct, but not unforgiving. the difference between it and the Lynskey with flames on it (R320?) I rode is significant. The R320 rode a bit like a carbon bike, very smooth, it lacked  a bit of life or snap or something.  that said, the R320 would be ideal for anyone wanting a high performance comfortable bike but was not into racing lots.  Probably most people!

Just got back from a visit to the States and managed to pick up my Level 3 from the local bike shop that built it out with all the components.

What can I say?  The bike fits perfectly and is a work of art.  The welds and finish are impeccable the near-compact geometry looks good.  Though the bike has essentially the same measurements as my old Litespeed Ultimate, the Level 3 feels considerably lighter.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating, of course and the Level 3 did not disappoint.  I got out for my first ride only an hour before dark, so I took it for a ride on a 20 mile circuit with lots of rolling hills and a couple of very steep climbs.  The bike rode fast on the flats and very comfortably absorbed road vibrations, but it really showed its metal while climbing.  It climbs like a mountain goat!  I found myself flying up the hills and the compact front triangle provided all the stiffness I needed.  The bike cornered very well on the twisty downhills and I was very pleased with the feel of the Alpha Q fork that you chose for me.   I did a few test sprints and found the acceleration to be extremely responsive.   I’ve since put about 150 miles on the bike before I had to head back to Moscow (and the blue ribbon on the velodrome) and I liked the bike more with every passing mile.   Now I can’t wait for spring to take it into the Alps to tear up the cols.

One small comment.  I was expecting to have a braze on mount for the front derailleur and was disappointed when it wasn’t there.  I went back to the form I filled out when I sent you my measurements and saw that there wasn’t a field to indicate whether a braze on mount was ordered or not.  I didn’t see a mount in your drawings either, so I have to take responsibility for not drawing it to your attention.  Suggest that in the future you include that item on your order form to avoid any confusion.  Some day when I’m back in the states with the bike, I’d like to get the braze-on mount added.

In the meantime, I will be enjoying a truly awesome new machine. You have a new Lynskey devotee and I’ll be back to order my 29” mountain bike when my wife has gotten over my purchase of the Level 3.

Thanks for all your help.  I wish you and your team continued success.

I am not a racer. Speed is not my goal. I just want to be able to keep up with my riding friends and to be able to enjoy the ride. I ride because I love to ride. But through the years the pounds have been adding up and riding was becoming less and less enjoyable. Folks told me that I needed a lighter bike. It would be nice but with my weight, it was silly. I needed to loose weight on my body. My husband surprised me with a new steel bike a few years ago. It was really nice but it really wasn’t much lighter than my other bike and it didn’t have the low gears to get me up the hills in Chattanooga. I rode it for two years but never really bonded with it and finally went back to my older bike.

Well, I finally lost the weight and this time, when my husband mentioned a new bike, I jumped at the chance. Finally I felt like I deserved one. But, if I got one, I wanted it to really be better than my old one. I was riding a Litespeed Blue Ridge set up for touring with components for hauling a load, touring self contained over mountains. It was a really nice bike but had heavy components. We went to our very dear friend, Mike Skiles, at Suck Creek Cycle and turned it over to him. He did some checking and got all excited over what he was getting for me – but he wouldn’t tell me what it was. I was so afraid I wouldn’t really bond with it and what would I do.

The big day came and I couldn’t believe it. I had lusted over a Lynskey that they had in the shop one day but I couldn’t imagine ever owning one. I dreamed about what it would be like to ride one. It’s even better. I can’t give any technical comments. I just love it. It is beautiful, comfortable, and glides up the hills. Today was my third time on it and was the most challenging of the rides. I couldn’t believe it was me, aged 64 and still not skinny, on the longer climbs just slowly and steadily passing my friends. And I wasn’t even working that hard. Even on the downhills it feels safer. I just hope I don’t lose all my friends because I can’t get this silly grin off my face. We have truly bonded.

Thank you, thank you, Hugh, Mike and Lynskey Performance!

What a fantastic bike you have provided for me!

I have only managed to get out on it twice so far (it was only built up on Friday night), firstly for a short 30km test ride, and secondly today for a 120 km Audax ride.

I also have a Litespeed Siena, which is a fantastic bike, but this is in an altogether different league. Your slogan says ‘built to go fast’ I think that you should also add ‘wants to go fast’, because it does. It is eager and responds to every touch and nuance.

I have never before really enjoyed climbing out of the saddle, but I did today, it is so solid and transfers the power so well. I also amazed one of the ‘hard men’ on today’s ride by not only keeping up with him on the last 15km when he was really trying, but then finishing ahead of him at the end!

The bike has been really admired by the people on the ride, and I now have a good line on the Lynksey history and company.

Can you please pass on my appreciation and thanks to Mitch Reynolds for an absolutely stunning paint job. The colours have worked superbly and the ‘smoke’ finish is just amazing. And please thank him also for autographing the frame, it is a really nice finishing touch.

The jersey is also excellent (although a matching green and yellow would be even better! – maybe you should rethink your team colours, or maybe adopt green and yellow for your UK colours).

Bikelab have done an excellent job with the spec and build. They are a really enthusiastic and knowledgeable bunch of guys and helped me build up an excellent spec for the bike which made if a bit different and complemented the colour scheme, they are a real asset to your network.

I've been riding for 22yrs (since I was 14). I never got past Cat4 (too much hard core competition here in NM) but I think that I'm qualified to grade a bike. I have ridden every material known to mankind, some good some bad. I have gone with fads and I have tried to make expensive "names" work for me.

Now I am 195lbs (that's 30 over my racing weight), have two small kids and no longer have time to train for racing. I do however enjoy the camaraderie of event riding, centuries etc. the more mountainous
the better.

I have been looking for a non-production bike for a while, a long while. The "perfect" bike. A combination of performance, durability and style. I was riding a Scott CR1 and had no complaints, except that it was a bike thousands of other people owned. I was seriously considering the following: Calfee, Moots, Landshark and Lynskey. I wanted a bike from a company that stuck to one thing, more or less.

Many years ago I owned a Merlin, it was quite possible the worst bike that I have ever ridden. It was a noodle and a very expensive one at that. I was VERY hesitant about another ti bike.

But then I found the Lynskey...it is my all-time favorite color scheme, it has an impeccable reputation, it will last forever, it was never part of a "fad" (and it did not hurt that I got a good deal on it). I sold the Scott frame, took the gamble and I'm not looking back.

I rode it all weekend (to the point that I "bonked" badly on my 70mile Sunday ride. I just could not stop)! You would not believe the stares and second glances that I got from passers by, it was almost comical.

It is 16lbs! I was not expecting that at all. Using "The Force" and other goodies my Scott was 15.5lbs. 16lbs on a bike that should last me forever? that is icing on the cake.

I bought the 210R because I don't really race any more, but wow is it stiff ( I mean that in a good way). It certainly rides differently than the Scott but the Garmin GPS does not lie, I am just as fast. (which is not very fast mind you) I have no doubt that it would handle any event I wanted to enter short of risking its paint in a local crit. I am more than happy with its performance level, in fact I think you understate it on your website. The 310R and 410Rs must be scary fast!

Anyway, enough of my "bike geek" rambling. I believe that my quest for the "perfect" bike is over.

I just wanted to let you know how much really enjoy my Lynskey Custom Level 2 ti 29er. It was well worth the wait! Having ridden 26ers for many years, My Lynskey 29er is the bike of choice when I'm ready to ride. The combination of the big wheels, super high quailty welding and choice of tubing is magical. The Lynskeys have it nailed from the start. From the phone interview build process with David L, to the viewing and approving the blue print drawing of your frame set, to the follow up phone calls,  Thats what I call customer service!  If you are in the market for a high quailty Ti frameset that fits like a glove, Lynskey is the right choice.

I recently purchased a medium HB310R, and I had the frame fully brushed and etched with the Lynskey graphics. Terry at the Bike Shop in Henderson, NV was the dealer. It's pimped with the latest Easton EC/EA 90 components and a SRAM Force group. I've had it for just over a week now and I've put 215 miles on it, and I want to let you folks know that I really couldn't be happier with this bike. It's light (16lbs), stiff and a bitchen ride, and it's smok'en hot to look at. Jack was great to work with on the purchase and Terry and his staff at the Bike Shop did an awesome job on the build. Thank you so much for your commitment to excellence. You guys are changing lives with this stuff.

WOW! My new Lynskey 310R is fantastic!  As an F-22 Test Pilot, I am accustomed to operating the very best equipment in the world and my new Lynskey continues that tradition for me.

I rode a few Centuries almost 20 years ago and then did a little mountain bike racing.  I ran my first Marathon last November at the age of 48 and recently decided that I wanted to get back into road bike riding.  It has literally been years since I have done any serious road or mountain biking of any kind.  Mike and Chris at Bicycle John’s in Acton California knew what I needed before I did and after listening to my desires and goals almost immediately steered me in the Lynskey direction.

From the beginning, Mark Lynskey worked with me to get the frame that I wanted at a great price.  I test rode more bikes than I can count to include many titanium and carbon steeds but nothing compared to the Lynskey.  After making the decision to purchase a Lynskey 310R, Jamie Pillsbury (Lynskey Graphics) tirelessly worked with me and demonstrated extreme patience with me for the etching that I wanted on my bike.  The Test Pilot in me demanded both complexity and perfection.  I wanted my signature, a few words: “My Other Ride is Fast Too!” and artwork of my other love – the F-22 Raptor.  My Son worked on a color picture with the aspect/view of the jet that I wanted and came up with a Photoshop black and white version that Jamie could work with.  Of course there is not a lot of room to work with on the 310R top tube because it is shaped to provide a wicked light frame!  Nonetheless, Jamie was able to make it work.  I’ve attached a few photos and I think it may be the most complex etching that they have had to conquer.  It looks great guys – THANKS!

I just happened to be at Bicycle John’s when my frame arrived last Friday (29 Jun 07).  Mike and I unpacked it and I was thrilled with the result!  I knew they had some work to do building my bike so I told them I would check on their progress in a couple of days – fully expecting not to ride my bike until next week.  Later that night while attending my boss’s retirement dinner, I received a call from Mike telling me that my bike was built!  I obviously had to wait until the next day (Saturday, 30 Jun 07) and I became excessively anxious!

Yesterday I got to Bicycle John’s shortly after they opened.  I would have been camped on their doorstep except for unexpected bike rack problems as I departed my house.  Almost immediately Mike got me set up for my “First Flight” on my new bike.  After a way too short 2.4 mile ride to “stretch” the cables, Mike then put me on the trainer for the next hour and a half watching me, asking me questions, and making adjustments - ultimately changing the stem and making more adjustments.

When Mike was finished, the bike felt perfect. Chris had provided me with multiple build options when I started this process and carefully guided me through my decision process with multiple test rides and literally hours of discussion.  Thanks to David Lynskey’s incredible engineering of an impossibly lightweight frame as well as Chris’s incredible attention to detail and careful component selection (I chose SRAM Force), my bike actually weighed in lighter than Chris originally predicted.  His original prediction with SRAM Force was a 16.5 lb bike without pedals.  At the end of the day Mike and I weighed my bike and it came in at 16.25 lbs WITH pedals, water bottle cages, and a computer!  WOW!!!!  This is only possible with an extremely light frame.  Lynskey Performance, Mike, and Chris – I can’t thank you enough!  By the time I got home and completed my required “honey do’s” it was too late to ride.

Today, (Sunday 1 July 07) I took my first serious ride on my new Lynskey 310R.  Again – WOW!  This thing is wicked light and screams when you crank hard.  I only intended on a short one hour ride but I was having so much fun that two hours went by before I knew it.  The bike is incredibly light, extremely responsive and stiff while providing a silky ride throughout.  I was amazed that despite my long hiatus from bicycling that I could feel both so comfortable and strong in the saddle for two hours.  I can’t wait for my next ride!

The bottom line is that I am a very particular person and both Lynskey Performance and Bicycle John’s not only met but exceeded my expectations and now I have the bike of my dreams that will last me the rest of my life.  It is both science and art taken to perfection – THANKS!!!
